no X server extension mbx (loadMbx) with AIX4.3?

no X server extension mbx (loadMbx) with AIX4.3?

Post by Claudia Baertsch » Thu, 30 Sep 1999 04:00:00

We tried to install I-DEAS on an AIX machine. But the instructions
want us to specify the X server extension -x mbx in the Xservers
file.
And there is no entry for mbx in the /usr/lpp/X11/bin/dynamic_ext
or /usr/lpp/X11/bin/static_ext. What happened to these extensions
with AIX 4.3 ?
They were available in AIX4.2 (in /usr/lpp/X11/bin/loadMbx). I know
that certain X11 extensions are not available with AIX 4.3, but only
external extensions (X Consortium, third-party extensions) should
be concerned.

Thank you for your help,
Claudia

MBX was replaced by DBE.   It is possible that I-DEAS doesn't use the
extension directly but requires the extension because the underlying
3-D API (OpenGL) requires it.  If that is the case, then you are safe
because OpenGL requires DBE on AIX 4.3.x.

1. rxvt2.4.5 executable from AIX4.3.0 dog slow on aix4.3.2

Does anyone know of anything that would cause a gcc compiled rxvt2.4.5
built on aix4.3.0 to crawl on an aix4.3.2 machine. This is happening
repeatedly to our users as they upgrade to 4.3.2. We don't have an
inhouse 4.3.2 box, and were hoping not to have to get one just yet. Same
hardware, same executable. New OS.
Other emulators, aixterm and xterm seem to work fine under their
current setup, with the new os.

Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated.
