CD-ROM for a 7011-220

Post by Bill Kurlan » Mon, 25 Oct 1999 04:00:00

I need to install AIX 4.3.3 from the CDs onto a 7011-220 currently
running 3.2.5 that does not have a CD-ROM drive. Can I use any old
external SCSI drive to do this or will the 220 not boot from an non-IBM
drive?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

I've had good luck with Plextor and Pioneer, just make sure the jumper is
set for 512 block mode.

1. 7011-220 won't boot from 4.3.3 install CD

I have a 7011-220 that I want to upgrade to v4.3.3. However, when I try
to boot from the first installation CD the boot process dies with a 513
on the 3-Digit display - "Restoring BOS installation files from media".

I have no problem booting from or installing 4.2 and I have a 3151 ASCI
terminal connected to S0 so I don't think the missing 'devices.sys.sga'
fileset mentioned in an earlier thread could be the problem - besides
it's not even getting to the point where it's trying to write to the
screen.

Any ideas what's going wrong?

Thanks.
