AIX 4.3.3: Maintenance level 3 --> 11

Post by Ulrich Plat » Wed, 28 May 2003 17:55:03

I've downloaded a quarter of a gigabyte worth of RTEs that were supposed
to take me from the current maintenance level of 4.3.3.3 to 4.3.3.11,
which I think I need for all that Linux compatibility stuff and Netscape
7, among other things... Now, inutoc, installp and smitty update_all
worked just fine and produced just the tiniest of errors, but even that
seems to have been fatal. One package (Java.samples.jni_example) claimed
it had already been superseded by Java.samples.example, and the other one,
devices.isa_sio.baud.rte, said simply "requisite failure" and led to
something the smit.log file calls 1800-035 Exit status (1)...  :(

Hundreds of other RTEs were successfully committed, though. But when I
type 'oslevel -r' now, it still returns 4330-03. I'd be grateful for ideas
how to circumvent this failure and get the maintenance level up where it
belongs.

I got slightly the same problem... I have AIX 4.3.3 ML8 machine, I
downloaded the tar.gz for ML8 to ML10 upgrade from the IBM website... I
went through the inutoc and update_all steps, and now oslevel -r answers
4.3.3-09 instead of 4.3.3-08 and instfix -i does not even mention ML10 !!

4330-09

All filesets for 4.3.1.0_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for 4.3.2.0_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for AIX43ML were found.
All filesets for 4.3.1.0_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for 4.3.2.0_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for 4.3.3.0_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for 4330-02_AIX_ML were found.
Not all filesets for 4320-02_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for 4330-03_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for 4330-04_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for 4330-05_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for 4330-01_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for 4330-06_AIX_ML were found.
Not all filesets for 4330-07_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for 4330-08_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for 4330-09_AIX_ML were found.

How can it be so ?? The tar.gz from IBM is supposed to take the machine
to ML 10 !!

I tried instfix -ciq | grep AIX_ML|grep :-: but again no mention of ML10
at all !!!

Any clue ?

Thanx

Hubert.

Missing 4330-10 Maintenance Level information:
The oslevel command may not indicate that the 4330-10 Recommended
Maintenance Level is installed even after updating from the 4/2002 Update
CD. This only occurs on systems that are newly installed from the 4/2002
level of the AIX 4.3.3 installation media. This problem is fixed in the
4.3.3.79 (and later) levels of bos.rte.install.

Thanks a lot! That was really quick.

I'm not sure what to make of the output from that:

I understand that a '-' between colons probably means that something is
missing. Where do I get the corresponding RTEs? Can I download individual
filesets from somewhere? Or is there something else that needs fixing
before I can try to update the maintenance level again?

As described in the previous post, the :-: does indeed indicate a
missing fileset.

This link is very useful for RS/6000's (pSeries servers) and AIX:
https://techsupport.services.ibm.com/server/support?view=pSeries

Click on the "Fixes and Microcode" to download rte's.
