Does anyone know what causes the following message to be logged to the
console:
Jun 10 03:05:02 hostname telnetd[30034]: ttloop:  peer died: No such file or
directory

Usually it's a port scan against the system by someone probing for open
services in a very quick and noisy fashion. Too bad it doesn't identify the
originating IP of the port scan... but it would if telnetd had tcp wrappers.

1. What is this: ttloop: peer died?

Vas is los?  I see in /usr/adm/messages:

Nov 15 05:01:49 ole telnetd[16590]: ttloop:  read: Connection reset by peer
Nov 15 06:10:47 ole telnetd[17001]: ttloop:  peer died: Unknown error
Nov 15 07:23:13 ole telnetd[17140]: ttloop:  peer died: Invalid argument
Nov 15 07:24:56 ole telnetd[17142]: ttloop:  peer died: Unknown error
Nov 15 07:33:40 ole telnetd[17149]: ttloop:  peer died: Invalid argument
Nov 15 08:01:59 ole telnetd[17198]: ttloop:  peer died: Invalid argument
Nov 15 09:15:48 ole telnetd[17678]: ttloop:  peer died: Unknown error

This appears to be folks in the office in Italy who are logging in over
the internet.   Any clues as to why they would be dying?  By the way,
it does not look like the PPP link is going down.
