SSA Disks and RAID for HACMP

SSA Disks and RAID for HACMP

Post by amshai.. » Tue, 26 Sep 2000 04:00:00

Hi there,

I have a SSA RAID D40 connected to two adapters in an H70 server. Now
for making a RAID 1 do I need to add disks on both the adapters as
Array candidate disks. I tried to make a RAID 1 array here, can someone
gives me the steps of doing so with two adapters,
do I need to replicate my steps for both adapters
ie.. get array candidate disks, specify them as primary disks and make
an array??????????

Your replies and suggestions are welcome.

I think you have to follow these steps:

--> on the first server
smitty ssaraid
change/show use of multiple ssa physical disk
    select all disks you want to be Array Candidate Disk

add an SSA Raid Array

--> on the second server
delete the old hdisks (rmdev -dl hdiskx where x is a number)
run the cfgmgr -v command (the -v parameter is to select verbose mode)
now you should be able to view the RAID

Hope this helps you.

Best regards,
Mario

1. Re-using SSA disks previously members of a SSA RAID array

On Tue, 16 Mar 1999 20:12:12 -0500 a carbon-based biped by the name of Lekic

Somewhere under the SSA Raid menu entry in the smit|Devices menu,
there is a point that will let you change the usage of a SSA disk.
If a disk has been a member of an array, it is probably listed as
'Array candidate disk' or 'Hot Spare'.
Change that to 'AIX system disk' for all the disks, and you should
be able to re-use the units as normal SSA disks.
