Some questions/problems with X, xdm, XDMCP

I am having a bit of trouble with my X-setup.  For one thing, when I open
another xterm or aixterm, my environment doesn't get exported...this means
all my environment variables have to be reset (ly my path).  Is there
a way to get the aixterm to read the current environment or even .profile?
(I'm using the korn shell).

Another problem is that I can't just type "info" or "smit" to get these
programs to run.  I get an error that says cannot open display or check
permissions on X server.  Even if I set DISPLAY=whatever:0 and export it,
I still get the same error.  However, if I type "info -display whatever:0"
it works....  The display variable is set... echo gives back the correct
display and "info -display $DISPLAY" works.  So what on earth is the problem?

The other problem is I wind up with a bunch of <defunct> processes when
exiting the login window.  Xdm is the parent of these processes, and I
believe that only the login window winds up leaving a defunct process behind.

Any help greatly appreciated.

On another note, if anyone has  Viewsonic 7 or the Mag 17 inch monitors
working in 1280x1024 with x-station 120 or 130, please let me know.  Thanks.

Try calling your aixterm's with the -sl parameter.
