7248 Model 43P-100 Microcode Y2K Verification

7248 Model 43P-100 Microcode Y2K Verification

Post by Joshua S. Bass » Wed, 22 Dec 1999 04:00:00

All,

I am trying to determine the microcode level and Y2K readiness of a 7248
Model 43P-100?

Does anybody know how to determine this?  I think that the only way to
check the microcode level on this machine is through SMS, can somebody
confirm before I take the machine down and reboot into SMS?

TIA

Not sure on this model 43P.  but on an F50 doing an "lsattr -El sys0" will
give you a list of which one of the lines is like this:
---------------------------------
fwversion   IBM,L99253    Firmware version and revision levels
---------------------------------
Which is quite obvious on the firmware revision.

I tried the same on a 43P (not sure which model exactly) running 4.2.1 but
it gave me something like this:
---------------------------------
fwversion   0,1                  Firmware version and revision levels
---------------------------------
Which is obviously not correct.

Not sure if there maybe another database which lsattr would be able to find
the info on such machines.

Hope this leads you into the right direction.

I'm not really familiar with that 43P, but I would guess that at least
the output of :-
lsattr -El sys0 -a fwversion
might map onto the microcode level for the machine.

I believe the lsattr command is getting it's info from the ODM.  And
you are correct, on a 43P (at least an older one) you will not be able
to get the microcode level from lsattr.

BTW don't forget that firmware and microcode are from what I understand,
two different things.

The microcode level is displayed when the machine boots. It's at the bottom
of the display.

Hi,
To check YZK compliance of Aix system , IBM provides us with a utility
called :
aixy2k_fixcheck26 (you will find it at IBM support site:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/tools/y2k/aixy2k_fixcheck26

to test your microcode level and Y2K readiness :
Aix 41.x :
lscfg -vf |grep VIC

Aix 4.2.x and 4.3.x
lscfg -pv|grep VIC

VIC number prior to 96108 is NOT Y2K ready.
download a later version according to your RS server at www.rs6000.ibm.com
..

Good luck ;-)
