AIX 4.2 vs AIX 4.3

AIX 4.2 vs AIX 4.3

Post by King How » Fri, 05 May 2000 04:00:00

I just brought a used rs6k running aix 4.2.1. Is it a big different
between 4.2.1 to 4.3.2? I am thinking of upgrading the 4.2.1 to 4.3.2.
Is worth to upgrade or should I learn 4.2.1
Like Sun Solaris, out there still many sun boxex are running 2.6 instead
of Solaris 7 or 8. Or like novell 3.x or 4.x is running on more of the
business rather than 5.0 even it is lastest. Can anyone gimme comment!!

both are versions are good (if you do upgrade to 4.3.x upgrade to at least
4.3.2)
one thing to remember though is that defect support for 4.2.1 just ended
3/31/00
however if this is just personal use to learn aix stick w/ 4.2.1

1. pthreads AIX 4.2 --> AIX 4.3

Hi there,

I have a problem using pthreads.
I've compiled my program under AIX 4.2 and i used
the call pthread_init(). This worked great. But
now i've upgraded to AIX 4.3 and the function
pthread_init() doesn't exist anymore.
Now my program is coring.

I know that the call to pthread_init() under AIX
4.2 was because of a bug and pthreads don't work
without it. Does anybody knows the solution or
any other comment?

Thanx...
