Getting to single user mode on old 220 rsk6 box

Hi Folks -
Let me preface this by noting that I'm a definite newbie to this, so
here goes:

I've got an old ibm 220 rs6k box that I'm trying to get to boot.  I've
got an old ascii terminal hooked up to the serial port.  When I key it
to service mode, it does display stuff on the console and gets to a
point where it asks if I want to boot to single user mode.  If I say
yes, it wants a password.  Is there a way to get past this?

I've been doing google searches for information about the 220 but am not
finding much.  This is a very very old machine, I think.  If anyone
knows of some good internet references I could get to, that would also
be much appreciated.

Hello Pete,

you have to boot from AIX installation media, cd-rom usually.
There is a single user mode too, mounting the rootvg.
Then you can change root's password, and reboot normally.
