pine 3.95 problems

Post by Charlie McGui » Fri, 13 Dec 1996 04:00:00

Hi Folks,

I've been running pine 3.95 on AIX 4.1.4+(patches) for a while and
it has the most annoying habit of "hanging" in the sense that it
looses all curses control quite often especially when entering
"compose" mode. Sometimes a ^L will refresh things and it will
continue - but most times it stops responding period and requires
a kill.

Is anyone seeing problems like this and whether there is a fix
of some sort?

Thanks.

Charlie

We have the same problem. Suspending the process (with ^Z) and then
start it again with fg is a workaround, but I hope it will be fixed
in the next release.

This problem came up on the comp.mail.pine newsgroup a while ago.  There
is a correction for this problem which you can read about via WWW at

        http://is.dal.ca/~ae/pine_freeze_fix.html

If you don't have WWW access let me know and I can mail the file to you.
The changes to Pine are very minor, just a few lines, but the supporting
documentation of Usenet articles and e-mail is about 380 lines so I decided
not to post it here.

1. Pine 3.95 and pine.conf/pine.conf.fixed

Hello all,

Just a quick question for today.  I recently installed q-mail on my
system to replace sendmail.  One of the things required by this install
is moving the mail folders to the users directories.  System is FreeBSD
2.1.5-Release, Pine is version 3.95.

I would like to set up Pine to default to a file (Mailbox) in the user's
home directory.  I know I need to set inbox-path=Mailbox but for some
reason Pine seems to ignore it's system wide configuration file.  If you
specify the system wide file, it works fine.

I've got pine.conf in /usr/local/lib/ as specified as the default
location for the global config file in the man pages....  Where'd I go
wrong?

Thanks for any pointers!!

-Dave

PS: An e-mailed reply in addition to a follow up post is greatly
appreciated as my news feed isn't all that great ;)
