AIX 4.1.5 install CD's - (help!)

Post by Dan Goodma » Thu, 07 Feb 2002 05:58:14

I have inherited an RS6000 still on 4.1.5; planning to upgrade it to
4.3.3 soon. Since it supports a clinical function, I must be able to
roll back from 4.3.3 to 4.1.5 if we encounter any application issues.

PROBLEM IS: I tried to install 4.1.5 onto a test box (I was going to go
for an alt_disk_install test). However, I get a "damaged media" message
when doing a selective install.

We are licensed for 4.1.5, but IBM Boulder SW Archive Dept. no longer
has this (no big surprise there).

Can anyone help me out with a set of 4.1.5 CD's, which you are willing
to loan, clone or disown?

TIA,

if your rs6k has a tape drive, just cut a mksysb before the upgrade to
433.  then you can just restore the system from the mksysb.

Never mind (in case any one is actually rummaging through their CD
collection.)

I've located a set from someone in OH who is sending it.

Yeah, that's the technical solution, and our first line of rollback on
"the real deal". However, management wants a dry run on a totally
dissimilar rs6k (different platform, different devices, different tape
form factor).

Add to this the fact that it is an F40, there is a quirk about trying to
install down (e.g., 4.3->4.1) on F40/F50's, and the fact that current
management got burned on another AIX upgrade before I got here because
they didn't know the workaround, and you begin to see my dilemma.

However, somebody from an application email forum is sending me a set
from OH. Now if I can just get my 4.2 user to budget for 4.3 (or 5).

1. can't install linux- cd didn't come with driver for cd-rom

Hi I have a Future Domain TMC-850/M/MER/MEX SCSI Host Adapter for my
cd-rom.  I can't find the correct Boot Kernel for it.
I don't know what version of linux I have, but if it helps I bought
Linux Unleashed 2nd Edition.

Does anyone else have this problem? Does someone know what boot kernel
will work and where to get it?

Thank you,
Steve
