Sys Accounting and performance impact???

Sys Accounting and performance impact???

Post by Dean Rocheste » Thu, 18 Feb 1999 04:00:00

Hello all

I am wondering your thoughts on the performance impact of turning on
system accounting.  We have 10 RS6000s of differing types.

I have used it in the past on other Unix boxes, but there is some
concern with my new employer that the info obtained from sys accounting
will not be worth the performance impact.

We are trying to get a handle on the system utilization figures for the
upper management.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I remember reading a long time ago that it consumes about 2% of cpu
time...  I'd say well worth it...

I wouldn't wory so much about cpu time, but look more to the I/O hit you're
going to experience from all the accounting info being wrtten to disk...
