370 Floating Point to IEEE conversion

370 Floating Point to IEEE conversion

Post by Tom Merri » Thu, 10 Sep 1992 22:58:34

Does anybody know of where I can find some routines to convert the IEEE
floating point on the Risc/6000s to/from 370 floating point.

It turns out that the GDF file produced by graPHIGS (and AIXWindows 3D)
is written in EBCDIC and 370 floating point, so it is very hard to write
programs for it on the Risc/6000.

Thanks,

                 +<--SPEW!!! Only IBM!!!

Try "dd conv=ibm ... " to get out of EBCDIC.  Good luck w/the 370 FP

IBM mailed me a copy of AIXWindows 3D w/AIC now you made me afraid to
load the LPP.  I think I'll wait until IBM learns how to write a
removable LPP (like I can) before installing it.

1. VM/CMS float conversion to IEEE float for AIX?

Some users here need to read data written on tape on an IBM mainframe (VM/CMS)
under AIX 3.2 running on RS/6000 hardware. What tools are available to do this?
On my own DECstation 'man -k convert | grep IEEE' reveal a number of routines
for doing the VAX-to-IEEE conversions for floating point numbers, a similar look
on our RS/6000 reveals nothing interesting. Is this an omission from the
man-pages or what? Is anything available (FORTRAN or C)?
