GXT1000-002 resolution and refresh rate ....

Hi there !!

If bought an old 7011-250 with a GXT1000-002 and a 6091-19i Monitor...

Fist of all: Who has a manual about the GXT1000-002 ? I know that it must
be somewhere out there in the depth of ibm.com, but after searching for
days, it still haven't found it....

But now to the main question:
I've read somewhere that the GXT1000 configures it self with the connected
Monitor Cable ... At first I did not get any working refresh rate/resolution
(i have a standard 13W3 <=> 3xBNC Cable), than I booted the machine up with
the cable disconected, pluged the cable in and now I have a, i think, 60Hz
setup. The right cable is the "77Hz Cable" (IBM feature number 3252), but
they want 180Euro for a new one, wich is much to expensive for me.
So: How to change the refresh rate/resolution ? Maybe with software or
some hardware tweaking (connecting Pins in the 13W3 connector) ?

greetz Markus

Alternatively:
Go to www.ibmlink.ibm.com, wind your way down to sales manual, and search for
GXT1000

Hmmm, there should be pinouts in a hardware manual, see

http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/pseries/library/hardware_docs/sa...

A search on GXT1000 on the RS/6000 page got 39 hits....just curious,
what methodology were you using for days.  8-)

GXT1000-002 resolution and refresh rate ....

A -250 with a GXT1000? Pizzabox on steroids?

The GXT150 is similar: If you have the wrong pins connected in the 13W3
plug, you'll either get no image at all or only at 60Hz.

For a GXT150, I posted the following some time ago:

The (09G3539) cable with BNC monitor plugs has the
following connections between the pins:
 2-4,   6-7-10
where pin 1 is the little one beside the single small coax one.
For the GXT150 (100 too), there seems to be also another cable that
allows a setting of 1152x900.

Without these two jumpers, I cannot boot the -250 if I have a different
switch setting than the default one - gets stuck in the console setup
according to the LEDs.

The IBM pinning is (RGB is the same):
1    Card RST
2    ROM EM
3    GND
4    VSYNC GND
5    HSYNC
6    CARD EN
7    INTR RST
8    Not Connected
9    VSYNC
10   HSYNC GND

Perhaps the PDF that the other poster mentioned uses the same names for
the pins.

1. GXT1000 refresh-rate setting ?

We, Academic Computer Club Ume? University, have recently obtained a few
machines equipped with GXT1000 graphic-adapters. Ofcourse without
documentation :-(

It seems that you cannot set the refresh-rate by software (ie. smitty),
but instead the cable used connecting the display determines this.

P/N 09G3539 gives 60Hz refresh-rate (flicker from hell !)
P/N 88G4483 gives 76 Hz (? An 6091-19i does sync, 6091-19 does not).

Is there a possibility to obtain 67Hz refresh-rate, since this is what
the 6091-19 can handle ?

Pinouts of the appropriate cable should be OK, if there isn't any way of
setting the refresh-rate through DIP-switches or equivalent.

/Nikke - prefers software-setting...
