pop3 for ROOT User

pop3 for ROOT User

Post by mkun.. » Fri, 03 Mar 2000 04:00:00

I've installed the pop3 Service on an AIX 4.2.1 machine (uncommented
in inetd.conf).

Now I can get my mail via pop3 but the ROOT user can`t get his mail
over pop3.

any hints?

I had a lengthy di$cu$$ion with IBM's AIX group about this -- AIX's pop3
service simply does not allow root to access its mail this way. We use
FacetWin's pop3 service instead (www.facetcorp.com).

AIX does not support pop3 for root. Instead just forward mail to root to
another user.

This may not seem to make sense, but as POP3 passwords go unencrypted
over the network (and are the same es the system login passwords), it
makes a little sense for security.

1. run a non-root user's program from a non-root user

Hi Folks,

Here is the problem.

I have user A and user B (non-root users)

I need for user A to initiate a job as user B. How can this be done?

As you know, I can do this as root. I can start a process from root as
another user in the system (cron jobs come to my mind!) Is there a way
to do this for non-root users? I believe I need to be able to do
something like  as user A
"su - B" without being prompted for password.

Appreciate suggestions in advance.

Pasha
