HELP - UNIX Restore from backup tape.

Post by R. Troy Pollet » Thu, 09 Nov 2000 04:00:00

Anyone familiar with Sysback restores?

I have an IBM F50 box with a tape tower (7 / 14 GB tapes) that I have an
Oracle backup on.  I also have an IBM F80 connected to the F50 via
ethernet.  The F80 recognizes the tape drive as a remotely mounted tape
unit (host1:/dev/rmt0) and can read the tape headers.  It correctly
displays the files that are backed up on this tape unit.  However when I
try to restore a test file using the following command (from smitty),

/usr/sbin/sbsmitout -s10 /usr/sbin/sysrestore -Nn -h'ipu1l'
-f'/dev/rmt0' -t'Regular_File' '-vx'  '-y' '/db02/xdebug_guch/xdebug'

I get the following error:

/usr/sbin/sysrestore[798]: 11264 45: 0403-057 Syntax error

Any suggestions?

I have no idea about sysback, but it happens sometimes that smit is
using wrong syntax to compose a command. Seems to be the case here. Try
to understand what exactly the command wants to do, check the syntax
(man sysrestore) and issue your own restore command with correct syntax
from the command line...

Just an idea...

1. help. restoring a backup dump/restore

Hi
I'm having problems with restoring a backup that has been made with dump

It's a redhat 6.1 machine
I want to restore the files on a redhat 7.1 machiene

cd /space
restore rf /dev/ht0

#(very long list)#
#and then half way#

Mount tape volume 2
Enter ``none'' if there are no more tapes
otherwise enter tape name (default: /dev/ht0) none
Warning: End-of-input encountered while
./data/data/fromcvs/development_2/com/data/support/producerconsumer/java/tes
t/CVS/Root/file
entry type: LEAF
inode number: 4214662
flags: NEW
abort? [yn] y
dump core? [yn] n

The backup went well on the machine where the backup was made if i need to
believe dump.
You whould realy help me with an tip/solution on this one :)
Maybe the syntax `restore rf /dev/ht0` is not the right way ?
