Ethernet card not coming up as broadcast on reboot

TCP/IP settings retained but adapter type blanked on reboot, look at
card and not up as broadcast.  Go into smitty tcpip and set adapter
type to bnc and start now = yes starts, alternatively, if
run /etc/rc.net again starts.

Any ideas??
