on myhostA

# lssrc -s timed
Subsystem         Group            PID     Status
 timed            tcpip                    inoperative

# startsrc -s timed
0513-059 The timed Subsystem has been started. Subsystem PID is 21458.
# lssrc -s timed
Subsystem         Group            PID     Status
 timed            tcpip            21458   active

On myhostB
when I do

# setclock myhostA

connect: A remote host refused an attempted connect operation.

I can do telent, ping , ftp to myhostA, port 37/tcp and 37/udp are
opened on both hosts and timed is active on both hosts.

Where I am going wrong ?

Thanks,

VKG

Maybe you do not have the time service enabled in /etc/inetd.conf.

That service is not the same as the timed server you started
but that is used by the setclock command.

You either don't need the timed daemon if you want to use setclock
or need to run timed on both hosts: configure them as master/slave.

Look in /etc/services :
time            37/tcp          ( time service for inetd )
timed           525/udp         ( timed cli-server port )

1. ftp: connect: a remote host refused an attempted connect operation.

I have several AIX boxes communicating over the internet.  Let's call
three of them alpha, beta, and gamma.  Each can successfully ping both
of the others.  Similarly, I can telnet from any of them to any of the
others.  However, when I try to ftp among the boxes, the following
results:

alpha to alpha: ok
alpha to beta: ok
alpha to gamma: fail with refused message as above.

beta to alpha: ok
beta to beta: ok
beta to gamma: fail with refused message as above.

gamma to alpha: ok
gamma to beta: ok
gamma to gamma: ok.

The refused message comes back quickly.  I ran iptrace on gamma but
couldn't see any transactions.  /etc/services, /etc/resolv.conf,
/etc/inetd.conf are identical on all boxes.  I'm stumped.  Anybody got
any ideas?

Thanks
