SAS gives vvm_sbrk errors under AIX 3.2

Post by Sean Brunno » Fri, 26 Jun 1992 23:25:22

We had SAS running fine under 3.1.5, but under 3.2 I get the
following message immediately after invoking SAS:

Quote:>vvm_sbrk: unable to open memory file '/tmp/sas_memory_Iu8CzR', errno=5
>AR2vvm: I/O error

and I get returned to the shell prompt.

Our local SE has no idea what could be causing this.

The system has 64 Mbytes of RAM AND 128 Mbytes of swapspace.

/tmp is an 8 Mbyte partition and usually has 7 Mbytes free.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sean,

We haven't upgraded to 3.2 yet, but I contacted SAS to see if there
are any known problems.  They told me there is a memory allocation
problem with the 3.2 O.S and recommended using the 3.1 allocation

        MALLOCTYPE=3.1

before invoking SAS.

They indicated a tape with the fix for this bug should be shipping
soon.

SAS has problems under 3.2 and they know about it, they'll give you
a new installation tape
