xlC++ compiler

Hi All,

I have been trying to purchase the IBM xlC++ compiler, but have been
informed that it is not longer retailed by IBM.  Can anyone confirm that
this is indeed the case.  The FAQ still mentions it a lot.

Cheers

Garry Ryan.

I still see it in the ftp directory for download at ftp.software.ibm.com,
although I do not know if you can get activation keys for it. The newer
compilers are appearently not available in a command line version,
so they are not usable for traditional Unix software development.

I can include information on the newer compilers in the FAQ, but I will
have to rely on contributors for that as my development environment is
exclusively based on traditional Makefiles.

Wow, i'm really sorry to hear this. I hope it's not true! :-(

I'm interested in learning more about this.

I believe that you now have to buy Visual Age C++ for AIX Version 4.
One of the CD-ROM's that comes in the box you receive is the xlC++
Version 3.6.x compiler CD.  It can be installed by itself without the
rest of the Visual Age tools, but you do have to pay for them.  The
docs say this is installable on AIX V4.1.5 or newer systems.
