zmodem transfer of files to PC?

Post by paul la » Sat, 31 Dec 1994 14:01:03

Hi,
Are there any other file transfer programs for downloading files from
a Unix host to a PC thru a modem besides kermit?  I tried sz and sx
but apparently our system doesn't have these (or they're called something
else).
Thanks.

Hi Paul:

I had some of these same questions that got answered here some time ago.
I am not an expert by any stretch but here is what got me going using Z
modem on my shell account.

To send files from the server to your PC use sz -aew 4096 <filename>
This is for text files.  If you are transferring binary files, use
sz -bw 4096 <filename>.

To upload files from your PC to the server try this,

rz  (then start the file transfer from you PC)

These two lines of commands are what got me "off the dime" when it came
to using Z-Modem.  Since it runs about 3 or 4 times faster than Kermit,
it was a real blessing.  I hope this also helps you out.

1. Using Zmodem for file transfer over a direct connection.

Could anyone tell me if their is something special that must be done on
either the unix or pc end to transfer files over a direct connection using
z/y/xmodem. I can get them to work over a modem connection but not a
null-modem connection.
