Setup NNTP server for local (site) newsgroups?

Post by Jose Unping » Thu, 13 Apr 1995 04:00:00

I'm trying to integrate a local newsgroup into my web page and I need
to figure how to set up an NNTP server with local newsgroups on the
same machine as the web server.  The machine currently has usenet

BTW, I don't have root access. I'm trying to do this w/in my own

I've looked at some of the info for managing usenet, but have made no
headway as my idea is just to have a very small single newsgroup in
my own account.

I hope that made sense.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

1. From netscape browser - resolve name of local site to local site on apache

I'm a novice in networking and don't know how to access a site with
name "" from my local apache webserver.

I tried to disable DNS or start named on my machine, but even if "ping" goes to (how I want) the browser goes to the
site on the Internet (not to my local site). Seems like the Netscape
browser is using the gateway to resolve name "" .

What I want: to make a configuration so that my browser goes to may
virtual host from apache ("") and for the other sites it goes
on the Internet.

I have:
-Machine: RedHat 8.0
-Direct connection to Internet from browser

Kernel IP routing table
Destination     Gateway         Genmask         Flags Metric Ref
Use Iface     *        U     0      0
0 eth0       *            U     0      0
0 lo
default         UG    0      0
0 eth0
