UNIX "Screen Grabbers"...

HI

IAP recently got a DEC Alphastation running OSF/1.  I got all sorts of cool software on the
drive (much of which I know not).  I was wondering if there were some UNIX "screen grabbers"
that output to .pcx, .tiff, .bmp - type formats?  Their names would be useful too, as I may
already have them but don't know what their names are!  I should probably mention that I run
my application in MOTIF.

Thanks in advance for any help!

[in the future, please limit your posts to 75 columns or less]

You can use the 'xwd' program to make screen dumps.  Use 'xwd > file.xwd',
or you'll get a few dozen screens of binary gibberish.  This will create
an X window dump format file.  You can then use 'xv' (or many other programs)
to view and convert the file.

The latest version of xv - 3.10, I think, allows you to grab a whole screen or
just a selected section of it.
