Wanted: Scheduler software wanted

Post by JAFlor » Mon, 23 Jan 1995 11:05:05

Is there scheduler software for DOS so I can run an unattended backup or
other BAT file at night?  The Unix system at least has cron crontab to run
unattended programs, is there anything like it for DOS or for Novell
Netware 3.12?  Commercial or shareware products included.
I just want something with the basic necessities to run a DOS
BAT file at night, not all the bells an whistles.
Thanks,

Hello,
While working for my previous employer I wrote a DOS Menu system to do just
that. I think they still sell it for NZ $ 50. == USD $30

They are Netway Communications Ltd NZ
PO Box 1702, Wellington, New Zealand.
PH +64-4-382-1500

The product is called StarMenu. We used it to invoke Dos Based Email and
EDI Translation Software to bring down Messages from a Mail/EDI Host. However
it is BATCH file based an can call any batch file.  One major advantage this
program has over most other systems is it takes NO Memory while the menu item
is being invoked. This was one of the 2 major design requirements.( The other
was Timed Invocation of course. ) This was because the EDI Translation Software
Needed all the Main Memory it could get.

There are a number of Shareware / Freeware available as well. Including CRON
clones. However these do not allow you to use your system while it is waiting
to run.

Mountain Computers made one that it bundled with its tape backup software
years ago. It works great and I have used it for years to kick
the backup off. It might be free --- they have a bbs in mountain view, Ca
