Hello,
        I have a tared archive on my local machine. I could send it back
to my unix host for uncompression, but since its kinda large, I rather
uncompress it locally. I run DOS/Windows. Is there a ftp site for
a utility that will uncompress tar files?

The right newsgroup for your question is comp.binaries.ibm.ps.wanted
