ASL Port manipulation

ASL Port manipulation

I am busy on a project to allow our Bull UNIX System to shutdown
automatically when room temperature becomes critical.  There is a 12 port
ASL card available on which I would like to set one of the handshaking
signals with a temperature monitoring device.  What I need is a sample
program or pointers on how to read these handshaking signals
(UNIX/C/ASSEMBLER).  With me still being new in the UNIX enviroment, some
specialist knowledge would really be appreciated.
