stop core dumps ?

Post by David Sean McNichol » Fri, 19 May 1995 04:00:00

Hi,
I want to stop my SPARCclassic from doing core dumps. I know that
the system call 'setrlimit' can reduce the core dump size to 0,
effectively stoping the core dump. Unfortunitly I can not program and
need someone to help me.

You may ask, why stop the core dump. Well when I run a couple of
windows and on core dumps it stops the win manager and screws up my term
emulation so I can not logout and login again.

Yours,
        Dave..

In a configuration file of your shell (~/.profile, ~/.zprofile), add
limit coredumpsize 0

It will work most of the time.

1. dump core or not dump core

Howdy,

Some of my programs dump core, others don't. I tried
it on RedHat 6.1 and Mandrake 7.0 with kernels 2.2.14
and 2.2.15. I tried tcsh and bash with coredumpsize
set to 1GB. It seems to be application specific.

Is there any other criteria when suppressing apart from
the type of signal and the size limitation?
The application that doesn't dump core contains signal
handlers for some signals, but not for SEGV or ABRT.
