getting rid of a file listing

Hello,

I was wondering if anybody can help me out.  This is what my file=20
listings look like in my home directory:

total 7
   1 drwx------  2 escudero      512 Nov  7  1994 Mail/
   1 drwx------  2 escudero      512 Jun  4 22:43 News/
   3 drwxr-xr-x  2 escudero     2560 Jul  3 01:35 bin/
   0 -rw-------  1 escudero        0 Aug 11 01:54 file
   1 drwx------  2 escudero      512 Aug  4 20:47 mail/
   1 drwxr-xr-x  2 escudero      512 Aug  4 13:22 public_html/
   0 -rw-------  1 escudero        0 Aug  9 23:05 =AE=87=FAQNW=F4
   0 -rw-------  1 escudero        0 Jun 25 01:38 =B4F=A3=FD2=EB=F8
   0 -rw-------  1 escudero        0 Aug  9 22:45 =EC

Does anybody know how to get rid my last three empty files?  The symbols=20
are the aspects that's confusing me.  I can't "rm" them because I don't=20
know how to recreate the symbols on my keyboard. Any help would be=20
appreicated.  Thanks.

Go one directory back by typing cd ..
  Then do rm -i dir_name/*
It will prompt you before deleting each file say 'n' to others and 'y' to
  those 3 files.

Since your news software is doing that annoying MIME crap, I think
it might be a little difficult to answer your question.

If you are on a sun workstation and use openwindows deskset tools, you
could run filemgr and delete via icon.

1. getting rid of top lines of a file without searching through entire file

hey,

I wanted to get rid of the top lines of a file, without having to read
through
the entire file (many gigabytes). Something like this:

original file:

line1
line2
line3
line4
...
line99999999999

final file:

line10
line11
line12
line13
line14
...
line99999999999

Could this be accomplished through mmap? What if you want a file that
'points' to the middle of another file? Is this possible? This is a
frustratringly hard
problem to solve for being such a simple task..

Thanks much,

Ed
