What permissions do I need to set on my .plan to make finger see it?
I think this is the problem I've got it set to -rw-rw-rw ?

Are you sure that your directory is executable?  You hvae to set your directory
to drwx--x--x I believe.  That is how I have mine.  

 Oh, yes, you also have to set your .plan to what it is currently set for...

I think you may need a directory set 755 (drwxr-xr-x) and your .plan should
be 644 (-rw--r--r-) NOT 666 (-rw-rw-rw).  I'm not sure your home directory
*has* to be 755 but try it if i doesnt work the other way.

You should make your directory open to others ("chmod 711 $HOME" or
"chmod 755 $HOME" if you want them to be able to read it), and then
"chmod 644 $HOME/.plan".  No need for 666.

If you set your directory (.) to  755, then people can see what is in your
directory.  If you are a bit more security oriented, then you should set it
to 711 ("chmod 711 ." will work).  That way, when someone tries to ls your directory, it will say, '. unreadable.'  That is usually the best way to go, as
this way nobody can comprimise your security.

Just wanted to clarify.
