vmstat proceses

vmstat proceses

I've been using vmstat to watch memory on our Sun server for the last 6
months or so. Until recently the number under w(aiting) processes has been
0. What I've read indicates that it should be 0. But recently I've seen it
as a constant 3, and on one day a constant 7. And yet there are no signs of
memory problems. Does this change in numbers for w(aiting) indicate
problems that I just don't see?

1. vmstat | sed WORKS vmstat | logger WORKS vmstat | sed | logger FAILS

I am using FreeBSD 3.3.  The following two pipes work fine:

vmstat -w 5 | logger -p local0.info
vmstat -w 5 | sed -e /procs/d -e /fre/d

But don't work when combined into:

vmstat -w 5 | sed -e /procs/d -e /fre/d | logger -p local0.info

I don't understand why.  Any suggestions?
