I'd start by looking at /etc/nsswitch.conf on that one machine; it's
possible that it is not referring to nis for its group information; then
I would maybe try bouncing nscd (/etc/init.d/nscd stop; /etc/init.d/nscd start),
because lots of weird stuff gets cached there (hosts, password, group, I think).
Also, keep in mind that a session's group ids get set once at login, so
the user will need to log out then in to reestablish his/her groups once you
fix the problem. (The groups command seems to refer to the actual files/nis
databases rather than the process' information, so until the groups command
correctly reflects the user's setup, logging out/in wouldn't help.)
