3270 emulation on a VT100/220 screen

3270 emulation on a VT100/220 screen

I have a small problem with the emulation packages at work, not sure
if this is the right group but here goes.

We use the sunlink package on our SUN to emulate a cluster controller
type pu2 connecting to an MVS host. 3270 screen emulation requires 24 lines
for the application plus 1 status line (25 total). I am told that vt100/220
emualtion is 24 lines on our pc's (PCNFS). Our freedom terminals will display
25 lines but as most people only want 1 screen(ie. PC) on their desk this
will not do.

Can we get a product for the PC that will emulate vt100 in 25lines?? Or
is it just bad luck? (ie. is there some sharewhare etc.)

Thanks,
Rob.

3270 emulation on a VT100/220 screen

If the problem is that people are unable to see the normal contents of their
24th line because SNA3278 is covering it up with it's own status line.
you can edit the SCI3278.$term files in the SNA3278 distribution (typically
/usr/sunlink/3270) and change the line reading "statline:#24" to
"statline:#01". You'll need to rerun "scinit" or "run_sc" afterward to
compile a new SC3278.$term file for each termtype changed.  This puts
SNA3278's status line on line 1, usually bothering nothing more than the
title of the current screen and the date and time.

Alternatively, you can copy SCI3278.vt100 to SCI3278.vt100-1 and make the
edits above, then edit /etc/termcap and add an alias to the entry for
"vt100" as "vt100-1". When your PC-NFS people log in, they can set termtype
to "vt100-1" when they want that behaviour, and leave it as "vt100" for
other purposes.

We've done this for the users of one or two CICS packages that seem to make
use of every last line of the display including the last, and for those
PROFS users who still don't have memorized what the second row of PF keys
does in PROFS and have to have the menu visible.

As another alternative, and one we've begun to use as well; get a copy of
Sun's Advanced Telnet (actually Reflection terminal emulator) for their
"R8" emulator.  It's a 3278 emulator in 4 colors and has much better
PF key support than SNA3278 & PC-NFS's telnet.

I also seem to remember that the telnet window for PC-NFS under MS-Windows
has 25 lines if used in VT220 mode.

1. Screen Scrapper to parse data from a 3270 screen

I was looking for some sort of "screen scrapper" software solution that
allows me to parse the text on a 3270 terminal (dumb terminal) or terminal
emulation running on a pc. Is there any off the shelf software available?
Thanks
