Archie and Compression

Hi Everyone,

When you're using archie from telnet, the command line, or
via-e-mail what compression types are available.  How do you set the
compression for each type, and finally how do you decompress each type of
compression.  Any help would be appreciated but I ask that you please
e-mail your responses as I don't often get to read this newsgroup.
Thanks in advance.

1. archie: archie failed: Timed out (dirsend)

I just downloaded archie and gopher binaries from sunsite.  Gopher
seems fine but my archie queries always come back with:

archie failed: Timed out (dirsend)

Where do I start looking to correct this problem?

Thanks.
