             Does anyone know how I could autoreply in ELM?  Our machine isn't set
up to use vacation or the autoreply utility for ELM.

Then maybe you should try to persuade your local support to get
vacation, because "home made" scripts with filter (check "man
filter") could easily cause havoc because of circular email for
bounces.
