time zone in custom "date" output

time zone in custom "date" output

Post by Stephen P. Lardie » Tue, 05 May 1992 15:02:43

When using the + option of "date" to customize the format of the output, is
there a way to get it to print the abbreviated time zone ("EDT", "GDT", etc.)?
It prints this in its normal format, so the program has the inherent
capability, but the man page gives no % code for it in custom format.

Operating system: SunOS 4.1.1

Hi!

----

Is it possible to create a Solaris "zone" from another (=not the
"global" one) zone ?
For example: Can I create a zone for a user and permit the user to
create another bunch of zones which inherit from his current zone (and
that user permits his users to create their own "zones", too) ?

Example:

global_zone
   |
   |
   +--user_zone_1
         |
         |
         +-- user_zone_1__1
         |
         |
         |
         +--user_zone_1__2
         |     |
         |     |
         |     +--user_zone_1__2__1
         |     |     |
         |     |     |
         |     |     +--user_zone_1__2__1__1
         |     |     |
         |     .     .
         |     .     .
         |     .     .
         |     .
         |     .
         |
         |
         |
         +--user_zone_1__3
         |
         |
         .
         .
         .
