File locking in Unix (SYSV R3 ISC 2.2)

File locking in Unix (SYSV R3 ISC 2.2)

Post by Michal Szymans » Tue, 16 Mar 1993 20:22:17

Hi,

sorry if this was asked before, but I'm a new usenet user. I also didn't find
it in FAQ.

Is it possible to open a file in such a (locking) way that another process
(possibly mine) can't access it until it's closed? I've found some info
about locking in "fcntl" and "chmod" man entries, but I did not succeed to
make any progress in the matter.

thanks for any help, regards,
