4.2 -> 4.3 lpd

4.2 -> 4.3 lpd

Post by wel.. » Fri, 02 Feb 1990 15:29:00

        Aside from porting code, is there any way to get 4.2 lpd
(running on a Sun) to talk to 4.3 lpd (running on a Vax).  We used to
send remote jobs from our Sun's to our Vax back when our Vax was
running 4.2, but now it don't work...

        (Please mail to me as I no longer read this group.)

4.2 -> 4.3 lpd

As is common in problems such as this I figured out on my own that it
was not 4.2 -> 4.3 differences in lpd, but the fact that gethostbyaddr
doesn't seem to work properly (here or in general?) when named is
running...  Anyway, if you were going to respond thanks for the
thought...

1. AIX 4.3 -> 4.2 noitargim (migration) [programming]

Hi *,
   Well well, I had my multi-threaded application running fine
on AIX 4.3 and it turns out now I have to downgrade it to 4.2.
Could anybody inform me of pitfalls to look for? In particular,
in 4.3 I had to use nanosleep() instead of usleep() otherwise
the app would bomb out when attempting to wake up as usleep()
doesn't seem to be safe for MT, but nanosleep() is. But...
on AIX 4.2 nanosleep() does not exist!!! obviosly usleep()
doesn't do the job (core dump), so I tried nsleep() but that
also has the same problem.

So, the question is... is there a thread safe millisecond-resolution
sleep function in AIX 4.2? yes, I had taken care of using the
_r libraries and defining _THREAD_SAFE and including pthread.h
first, and linking with -lpthreads as well. Please copy to my
email address.

                TIA,
                                Emilio
