strip/remove any and all of the control characters in the file ?

1. how do i use sed to remove carriage control chars. from file
i have a source code file with control characters in it.

// Initial Development Version.^M

specifically CNTL-M or ^M, the carriage return character.
i'd like to use sed to remove these offending control characters.
