I want to tar?, mdtar?, dd? , cpio?  files (gnu stuff)
from: dec 3100 (risc) - ultrix 4.2 (rrz4?)
to  : clone intel sco 3.2.2 (rfd0135ds)

How to "copy" the files from the dec to carry home to the sco?

Thanks.

I would use cpio.  It should be very portable.

ls file_list | cpio -ovc > /dev/rrz4?

on SCO

cpio -ivc -I/dev/fd0135

That plea was posted during a UNIX-hissy fit. The problem was that
the SCO tar xv was not restoring a file which split over two
floppies.  Ultrix's tar does not employ the SCO switch A. The SCO
switch A will check for enough space on the volume before tarring.

Also Ultrix 4.4.? does not have a /dev/default/foobar files
 telling what's what. grrrr :-/  ie   /dev/rrz4a == /dev/rfd0135ds18

Solution: tar ovxf /dev/rrz4a  foobar1 foobar2 ....but not to
exceed the floppy capacity.

 A UNIX-newbie with a little knowledge is dangerous :)

Otherwise thanks for the reply; must look at cpio.

1. biz.sco.* replaced by comp.unix.sco.*; biz.sco.* newsgroups removed.

I've issued the cmsg's removing the old biz.sco.* hierarchy
which was superseded by comp.unix.sco.* back in April.

The old companion mailing lists have been torn down.  All valid
addresses on the old mailing lists were moved to the corresponding
new ones for comp.unix.sco.* upon their creation.
