FTP Question

Post by Deon de Villier » Fri, 14 Feb 1997 04:00:00

Hi There

I am running Unisys Unix SVR4 ver 1.3.  My problem is this:

I run ftp and connect to a second SVR4 server, I fetch a file and then want
to rename the file to filename.old.  I get an error on the rename saying
permission denied.  If I telnet in to the second server as the same user I
can quite happily rename (mv) the file ie. the permissions on the file are
correct for the user to perform the operation (the user is part of a group
which has rw permissions on the file).

I am thinking that there is some extra security layer built into ftp ???  I
can find nothing in our manuals or in the man command.

Please help

Thanks
Deon de Villiers.

Look for an /etc/ftpaccess file - some versions allow disabling
moving and deleting of files, even for normal users.

Markus.
