:

No, the two addresses are unrelated in TCP/IP. But they are related for
DECnet.

In what context?

Look in to the RARP and BOOTP protocols (see relevant RFCs or man pages).

: No, the two addresses are unrelated in TCP/IP. But they are related for

But they are related in ARP protocol. For more info on ARP, see RFC 826,

0826  S     D. Plummer, "Ethernet Address Resolution Protocol: Or converting
network protocol addresses to 48.bit Ethernet address for
transmission on Ethernet hardware", 11/01/1982. (Pages=10)
           (Format=.txt)

RFC 826 is available via anonymous ftp to ds.internic.net, in
/rfc/rfc826.txt . Or from this URL:

  http://ds.internic.net/rfc/rfc826.txt

1. How can I convert a tty address to an IP address in older SCO UNIX

How can I convert a tty address to an IP address in older SCO UNIX

Under HPUX the command would be

who -mR

to give me the host name or IP address of the client that is connected on
the pseudo tty port. On older versions of SCO UNIX this does not appear to
be available and is not included in the structures for utmp.

I need (preferable via a unix script) to identify which physical PC is
connecting to the SCO box via a terminal emulator.
