I need to know what the gif format is so that I can plot gif files.
Can anyone tell me where the gif format is described?

1. Q: file:/foo/foo.gif = /foo/foo.gif ?

How does the httpd resolve these two HTLM-commands:

1.  <IMG ALIGN=BOTTOM ALT="foo" SRC="file:/foodir/foo.gif"></A>

2.  <IMG ALIGN=BOTTOM ALT="foo" SRC="/foodir/foo.gif"></A>

Are they handled identically?
Where are the differences?
What notation should I use?
