tty?? session - taking a peek

If someone telnets to my system or logs in on ttys3 for example, is there
anyway to 'view' what they see? I'm using Linux, but perhaps there is a
generic unix command.

When I Switch between tty session and X-window session
I loose the gui screen and have a character screen with
the startup (startx) info.

How do I get the gui back ?
