mail causes sh/csh/tcsh scripts to exit

Post by Darrell Lo » Tue, 31 Mar 1992 08:02:45

A colleague has come up with a problem that I can't explain and I hope that a
wizard mightier than those to be found locally might be able to help.

The problem is this: my colleague writes sh/csh/tcsh shell scripts to do
various things with his mail.  At seemingly random intervals, executing
/usr/ucb/mail causes the shell script to silently exit.

I looked at the sources to each of sh/csh/tcsh and could find no reason for
this behavior.  It's as though mail were comitting patricide.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks, DL

The above isn't very helpful to someone reading this.  How does he
invoke the scripts?  In a login init or via some mail filtering agent
or at the command line or what?  What are the scripts?  What is he
doing with his email?  What kind of OS are you running into this
problem with?  What does his .mailrc file look like?  I could go on
and on with the questions, but basically what I'm getting at is: more
information please.  :)
