are there any aftermarket products which would allow this??

I've installed wu-ftpd on our machine at work and it works
quite fine.

I'm not entirely certain if this will meet your needs, buy you could try
the WU ftp daemon at:

ftp://wuarchive.wustl.edu/packages/wuarchive-ftpd
