Executing Send Net from UNIX

Executing Send Net from UNIX

This question has been posed previously in this and other groups in
several related forms, but apparently has not been answered so far.
Briefly, we would like to use Send Net, or a comparable facility, to
send a message from a UNIX Server (Solaris 2.x) to NT workstations in
an NT domain. The objective is to inform NT users that a UNIX process
has been initiated.  Does anyone know of any straightforward way to
implement this?  If not, does anyone know of a text or other reference
document which discusses this problem?  Thank you!

samba can be used, e.g.,

echo 'blah blah blah' | smbclient -M nbsysname

caveat: `net send' doesn't always work.

-- P.S: I should have said that the objective is to display the
message in a "pop up" form on the NT workstation, which makes
solutions involving email inconvenient.  Also, "Send Net" in the above
is a typo, it should be "Net Send"!

Hello,
Can anyone tell me what is the way to send pop up messages from
Unix(Solaris & Linux)to Windows Client machines using samba even if
the windows clients are not connected to unix servers.
