Hello out there! We are looking for a Software Distribution utility
to use in a UNIX environment, and were hoping someone could make a
recommendation. We currently are using scripts (using rcp) to load and
verify software on over 300 UNIX devices of 13 different device types (i.e.
Workstations, Print Servers, File Servers, Gateways, etc.). As you can
imagine this takes quite a bit of time, even loading them 4 devices at a
time (using 4 UNIX processors as staging devices).
We are using the TCP/IP network protocol, and were wondering if anyone has
utilized the "broadcast" or multiple recipient capabilities of the network
such that a file could be sent to multiple devices at one time (actually sent
on the network once, but received by multiple devices)? This could be to all
devices on a subnet or other selection criteria. We don't believe this is
available from standard UNIX, and we have investigated rdist (which also
actually sends to one at a time).
Does anyone know of a UNIX utility or Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS)
package which can do this? Could you recommend some other solution???
Thanks!
