Sick dir ends up in lost+found -- file sys woes...

I'm running IRIX 3.3.2 on a PI and having trouble with a directory
that seems to have come "unconnected" from the /usr filesystem. It's
several levels deep (/usr/ip32/plot/spool) and the symptom is that
any files copied to it end up in /usr/lost+found.

I've tried rebooting (to let it run fsck) but the problem remains.
Should I boot single-user and run fsck interactively?  If yes, what
am I looking for?

How does a dir become "unconnected" anyway?

Thanks for any help.

rebooting won't cause fsck to be run.  resetting will, but that is
a bit drastic.  I would suggest booting single user and running
fsck manually.

The unlink system call (and /etc/unlink) can do it.  More often
it is some kind of disk error.

1. find without the "find: cannot read dir /usr/lost+found: Permission denied"

find / -name 'foo*.h' -print 2> /dev/null

|Hi all,
|
|Is there anyway to prevent find displaying the annoying
|
|find: cannot read dir /usr/lost+found: Permission denied
|
|message?
|
|For eg:
|
|find / -name 'foo*.h' -print
