cc wont compile(/usr/lib/crt1.o)???

Post by Jaso » Wed, 23 Dec 1998 04:00:00

Hi--

I'm trying to compile some VERY simple C code using cc , and i keep
winding up with
errors saying "can't find /usr/lib/uopt", and "FATAL IO ERROR:
(/usr/lib/crt1.o)no such file or directory"
Now, we've got 3 SGI's, and all have standard IRIX 6.3 installed,
which i believe should include the standard C compiler package. I've
searched on all 3
machines for "uopt" or "crt1.o", and none of them come up with
anything... does
anyone know exactly what files I need to compile and link an
executable?  If someone
could provide a list of these file (skip /usr/include, I've got all the
headers)

--Thanks in advance for any help!

uopt is an optimiser phase of the compiler.

crt is C RunTime. It's what starts the program (and calls main) and
catches exits. If it's missing, your compiler install is fundamentally
broken.

I think you have pay extra to get development tools. In any case, the
tools are not part of the normal install. Assuming you do have a
Development CD, open Software Manager with it. I don't remember everything
you have to install, but you do have to install a lot of it. You can find
which package crt and uopt (and others) are in with Find dialog. Enter the
file name and check search for file names.

You can also ask in the comp.sys.sgi.* hierarchy.
