Program wanted

Post by Mark Warre » Fri, 18 Aug 2000 04:00:00

I hope I am in the right place to ask this question.

I am not a Unix programmer whatsoever.

I have the following request.  I am after a program that will run on a
firends PC (windows 95 based !!!) that will do the following :

Connect to his Unix server and go to a certain directory containing a file
called incoming.txt - convert this file from Unix format to DOS format -
download the DOS file to his local machine - delete the original Unix file
on the server and then recreate the Unix file again (i.e. a blank file).

Is this possible?

Please do not flame me if I am asking in the wrong group - I am just trying
to help a friend.

Thanks for any help advice offered.

Mark Warren

This should be possible without any programming:
1. Create an empty file named incoming.txt on Win.
loop:
   2. ftp unixserver.wherever.com
      <type in username>
      <type in password>
      cd to_the_directory
ascii                <--- This will convert to DOS
      get incoming.txt fullfile.txt
      del incoming.txt
      put incoming.txt
      bye

Now you can look into fullfile.txt (a DOS formated txt-file)

Perhaps some Windows specialists can put all this into a script.

Hope that helps,
Martin.

1. Password expiry warning program wanted

: Hi,

: On some other operating systems, a week before a password is due to
: expire, the login program prints a message warning the user when their

: Does anyone have a program to do this for the Unix four character
: expiry codes based on the "Max,Min,Week since 1970" sequence as
: implemented in SVID2 & XPG systems such as HP-UX.

: Any pointers to URL's sites, program names would be helpful

: Thanks in advance

: Chris Cook
